Wiktionary defines cattywampus as:
out of alignment, in disarray or disorder: crooked, askew.
The first part may be related to cater-corner. The second part may be related to wampish (“wriggle, twist about like a fish”). In the context of this blog, I use the term to describe ourselves and our ninety year old home through the process of rediscovering the beauty within our flaws, scars, and breaks from living and loving.
as for this blog? we own a tudor bungalow built in 1927. it no longer has plum walls or squared quarters, but it is every bit beautiful. the same goes for my husband and myself regarding plum surfaces and squared edges.
embracing the wonkiness of the life and home we build together is a devastatingly enjoyable process that I am learning as I weave my stories of our cattywampus cottage and gardens.
