We have arrived at the heat of the season, having spent most of the past week breaking ninety degrees.
And the garden loves it!

we shall see if I can stick the commitment
to lifting delicate bulbs for winter

starting its big show

‘sound of my heart’ is likely
the showiest daylily in our garden.
big, frilly, and fabulous just in time
to finish up pride month.

and false sunflower

the cherry tomatoes will be my first
lunchtime snack
from the garden this year.

the first try of of three to produce flowers

from last year’s crop

royal sunset takes a bow

about randomly in and around the back bed. we love that sort of behavior here…

and lots of little toxic lumpy peppers
are beginning to appear

a hummingbird favorite

for its fourth year

and found its new home

black sweet potato vines,
and long beans to climb the trellis

with yellow terracotta yarrow,
‘blue by you’ salvia, ‘scarlet breeze’ daylilies, euonymus, pink vinca,
and transplanted white yarrow

on move-in day eight years ago

from recently rescued ‘sunkiss’ coreopsis

of this year, still under construction

‘rockin’ fuchsia’ salvia,
and all the sexy colors of wave petunias

the tag photo,
this is the real
‘janice brown’

imposter, similar
to ‘minnie pearl’ except taller and bigger
both tagged as ‘janice brown’ daylilies,
but clearly, both aren’t,
and they have a drastic height difference.
sometimes clearance plants
aren’t about distress.

So much is thriving in the garden right now. This is a great year for expansion, and I am riding the current state of it like a giant wave of motivation to keep moving through the high heat of summer!
Enjoy!
