Yesterday, I started into the bench project, cleaning off dirt, rust and cobwebs, cutting off rusted nuts and bolts…
I removed the wood trim and inlays on the fancy bench:


next step: wood hardener and likely filler
I cut “dropcloths” for spraying. This is for an experiment to make my own textile print for the pergola project. Next, I begin spraying the base coats.






Lumber (at least most of it) has been purchased. I may need more lumber hardware for the addition fourth bench.
Wood slats will be stained and/or painted, the casted iron parts will get hand-painted shading, and everything will likely receive some dry-brushed details for depth and contrast, similar to the solar garden chandelier project.
This will be a major step forward toward hospitality in our garden, the seating areas adding comfortable spots in our already inviting garden.
