today’s project:

I finished and planted a bed I started at the beginning of the month. It is across from the okra bed in front of the sitting patio on the far side of the garden.

I began before the heat of the day, weeding, digging, adding topsoil, and setting border stones, gravel and pavers.

I took a break to hydrate and cool down. Since I would be planting at midday in hot weather, I was sure to flood each hole with water before planting to help minimize shock.

This bed will add the new Patio Stage to Lilyfest 2024, with three new performers and an additional set by an old favorite.

The border flowers are Fire Star Dianthus and Sentimental Blue Balloon Flower.

The green stick in the middle of the open spot will hopefully grow into our first blueberry bush. It spent a few months in its bag of peat on the driveway patio, so it is in some shock and might not be a great performer. We shall have to see.

Installing a soaker hose and mulching is all that remains. It’s some decent work for late June. I am grateful the temperature stayed below ninety today…
